The Addiction Institute at Mount Sinai offers inpatient and outpatient care for adolescents, adults and geriatric patients with substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. Admissions are available 24/7 through the Emergency Department, and no appointments are required. Treatment typically begins with a full assessment conducted by a team that may include physicians, nurses, psychologists, and substance use counselors. Some individuals may begin with detoxification, which is medically supervised and generally lasts 5 to 7 days.

Begin Structured Recovery in a Supportive Setting

Following detoxification, patients may participate in inpatient rehabilitation, which provides 24-hour care and a structured daily routine. This includes group and individual therapy, medical and psychiatric support, family involvement, relapse prevention training, and educational programs. The inpatient program is voluntary and typically lasts 28 days. Family therapy sessions and discharge planning are included to support ongoing recovery after inpatient care ends.

Continue Healing Through Flexible Outpatient Services

Mount Sinai also offers outpatient services, including therapy groups, addiction medicine, and vocational counseling. Patients can attend therapy part-time while living at home or stay in a Halfway House—a temporary sober home for up to a year. Outpatient options include both in-person and telemedicine visits. Programs focus on relapse prevention, trauma support, and overall wellness, all in a safe, stigma-free space.

Location, insurance, assignments, nightly 12 step meetings in-house was nice. All on partial floor of hospital, no recreation, no creative activities, no guidance/opinion of 12 step. The aftercare placement was good --> placed me in halfway house. Took Medicaid (temp gov. Assistance ), 1 on 1 counseling through but not incisive. No "lighthouse" of brilliance.
